Аннотация
Целью исследования стало выявление в «Мёртвых душах» Н.В. Гоголя элементов, составляющих мотивный комплекс «элитарность». В статье ведётся речь о пристальном внимании писателя к социальной стратификации. Доказывается, что большинство героев поэмы не просто находятся в подчинении, но испытывают чувство ментальной зависимости от власть имущих, а подчас и врождённой, на генном уровне передаваемой любви к ним. К наиболее очевидным слабостям русского народа Н.В. Гоголь относит чинопочитание, которым охвачены практически все слои общества. Писатель полагает, что россиянину всегда льстит общение с сильным мира всего, даже мимолётное, причём далеко не всегда в этом случае подразумевается какая-либо выгода: желание находиться рядом с «высшими» может быть абсолютно бескорыстным. В своих поздних произведениях автор, с одной стороны, утверждает безусловное равенство мирян, с другой – заявляет, что социальный статус определяется Высшей волей, а потому каждый человек должен максимально хорошо выполнять свой долг в той роли, что назначена ему с момента рождения. Соответственно, социальная иерархия, по мнению Н.В. Гоголя, благо. А значит особое отношение жителей России к власти косвенным образом свидетельствует о мессианской роли нации.
